Children Ministry

The churches specially focus on the nurturing of the spiritual life of the children. Currently Sunday school is conducted in three areas two in Chetpet and one at Semmenchery-Re-habitation site for Slum Dwellers. The Sunday School Board was monitored by Ms.Grace Vanitha and 20 teachers work in the ministry. Every first week is celebrated as Special Days and four teams are divided among the children and games were conducted for them regularly

VBS is conducted every May for 12 days for the past 20 years where we teach moral, social and religious values to the children. The church is proud to say that many who have accepted Christ now in Chetpet were sometime been part of this VBS ministry

 

Teens Ministry

The church teen’s ministry was conducted on every Sunday at 8.15 a.m. nearly 20 teenagers were benefited through this ministry. Teens were the vibrant group who actively get involved in all works of the church

Women Ministry

Every Friday at 6.30 p.m women ministry is conducted. The church women and the other women from the community do attend the meetings. The women group go for outreach work on very second Saturday to Keechalam village which is 100kms far way form Chennai. They have taken this place as their outreach ministry and conduct VBS, medical camps, awareness programmes etc.,The womens ministry is taken care by Mrs.Lydia Premila,Mrs.Shanthi Natesan and Mrs.Asantha

Family Camp

Once in two years family camp is conducted to equip the member’s family to be close in their relationships. In the alternative years one day family retreat is conducted and half of the expenses are taken care by the members itself

Social Activities

Flag Hoisting

The Church always believes that it has to be part of the community. Every year on Republic Day and Independence Day special invitees were invited and the National Flag was hoisted. Till now

World Elders Day

Every 1st October is celebrated as World Elders Day where we give clothes, food to all the elders in our community. Initially it was started in the year 2008 and we distributed a provision kit for 25 elders from our slum in collaboration with the CSI Bain School NSS Volunteers. Mr.C.Ambikapathy, CEO Fast Track attended and distributed the kit to the elders

In 2009, we gave Saree for women and dhoti for men for 198 elders in our community. The chief Guest for the programme was Dr.Manoharan, Karunai Scans and Ms.Sara Elbohy, USA

 

International Women’s Day

From 2008, IWD is celebrated in our church in the month of March. In 2008, we distributed "emergency card" which contains emergency numbers to contact when the women are in distress. Ms.Isabel Richardson CEO, MCCSS participated in the programme and inspired the crowd.

 In 2009, a human chain was formed by the women in the community stressing a violence free world. It was flagged off by Ms.Shyamala, Advocate, Madras High Court

In 2010, a debate was organized for the women on the theme "Equality and Equal Opportunity for women is a reality or an illusion". The judge for the debate was Mr. Joe Arulraj a well renowned TV debate speaker.

 

Eviction

Chennai is the hotspot for developmental projects, infrastructures in order to attract the foreign investment. The government has envisioned elevated expressways, metro rail, flyovers in the Highways to ease traffic congestion. Nearly 1, 80,000 slum dwellers will be affected if these projects have to be carried and Appasamy Street is also one of the affected areas and set ready for eviction in the month of November 2009. It is in this context the church worked for the upliftment of urban poor, creating awareness about their rights, getting the details through RTI, lead campaigns, lobby with the Government and Police not to carry our forcible eviction, filed cases in the High court to direct the authorities to follow the norms and constantly been with the people in the struggles

 

Relief Programmes

The church always had been an instrumental and active respondent during flood and fire accidents in the community. In 2008, a fire relief package was given to 10 affected families in a small fire accident.

 

Job Fair

Often the church conducts Job fair with the recruiting agencies and help the community to find out their job.

 

Achievers Award

Achievers Award is a programme where we appreciate and give prizes for the students who have passed SSLC and HSC from our community. It was first of its kind and this year the chief guest for the programme were

World Tamil Conference

Our church pastor and the Secretary attended World Tamil Conference held at Kovai from 24th to 26th June 2010. They visited the various stalls and the exhibiton at the venue. A photo was taken along with Mr.M.K.Stalin,Deputy Chief Minister of Taminadu.

 

Family Retreat 2010

The church family retreat was held at Christ Church,Choolaimedu on 15.08.10. The family retreat was a culmination of series of sermons on Appreciative Inquiry. The theme for the day was "Be strengthed and do your work" Haggai:2:4 and God's word was shared by Rev.Joshua Dhanabalan and followed by series of activities. Meanwhile the national flag was hoisted in the church grounds on the eve of 64th Independence Day by Mr.Immanuel,Managing Director,M.P.R.Technique.

 

World Elders Day 2010

World Elders Day was celebrated in church on 03rd October. Nearly 214 elders from our community was given clothes and food. Mrs.Indirani Rajadurai,Special Adviser,Help Age India and Rev.Samuel Devanaesam were the chief guest for the programme and distributed the gifts.

 

Chetpet Premier League 2010

 

Chetpet Premier League 2010 – a professional 20/20 cricket match held at A.M.Jain College, Meenambakkam on 14th and 15th of October for the youth boys at Chetpet. Nearly 8 teams participated namely

 

   1. Chetpet Sports club

   2. All for One

   3. Real panthers

   4. Amson XI

   5. Eleven Star

   6. New Prime Minister XI

   7. Hittai Kings

   8. Rock XI

 

We also had a CPL Relay on 10.10.2010 where the players went with the CPL trophy in and around our community. The local Sub-Inspector of Police flagged off the relay. The matches were held on league basis and the champions of the CPL 2010 were the Real Panthers Team. The prize distribution ceremony was held on 17.10.10 and the Mr. Justin Anto, Indian foot ball player was the chief guest and distributed the prizes. He also shared how Christ has been an important source of inspiration in performing juggling and achieving higher rewards. Mr.Vinnarasu from Vinny Sports Academy was also present at the occasion. This initiative was first of its kind where the church jointly organized with the help of Chetpet Sports club.
